SAVING-DOWNLOADING- quicktime files - that seem impossible to grab IE VIMEO

There are some quicktime files that are hard to save or impossible.

I wanted to save a VIMEO video stream. The particular party hosting the video
file did not enable "user download" .
Silly.

So I looked into a few options. I tried an old trick that must have worked pre 10.3 (mac osx)

So many new versions since, breaks some capabilities.

What ended up being the most simple thing, and already on my harddrive to come help
and let me rescue some 0's and 1's for a brighter day, playback to other people who don't have
interwebs.

No profit, only sharing!

So The utility that i used was free from a gracious Italian programmer who makes
software like MPEG streamclip (the program I'm using to download the file)
and some software that enables Miromotion/video PCI video capture cards work
on newer computers. I use both to do editing and transfers from VHS.

Download MPEG streamclip from squared5.com.

it's free for windows and mac.
Also Make sure you have Perian Installed and
have your Quicktime preferences enabled as
Save to Disk Cache and boost up your MB to 2000mb if you can.
The last two steps just to be safe.

I have used the Windows version, and aside from codec availbility, they are the same.

I will now go step by step onto how to do so with MPEG Streamclip.

step 1:
go to your vimeo web address

http://vimeo.com/27375032

or whatever webshite
you want some media from
I'm using vimeo as the web site example and using SAFARI.
There are other ways to get the code for the actual
media stream -which differs from the web page address,
but I only know of using the ACTIVITY
pane in Safari to do so.  To find the Activity pane under
Safari, go WINDOW-activity

step 2:
copy that address you see your media file in Activity.
This is how you COPY it. Double click on the actual
stream in ACTIVITY.
It will pop up a new window under Safari and load the
single Media stream into it, and you will see the
Address in the address bar at top.

This is the address for my example :

http://av.vimeo.com/19124/390/61040887.mp4?token=1316495850_24352541fc934741aa51286d57314287

It's probably the LARGEST File you see
and you will see the file size as it downloads to the right.

step 3:
open MPEG STREAMCLIP

step 4:

Go to FILE - Open URL

See the options in the box.
Check off DOWNLOAD instead of OPEN
and choose your quality of download if applicable.
You want do download the file raw first. You can
make edits later in MPEG streamclip if you want.

step 5 :
Then simply download to a place you desire and
name it what you wish.

That's the TRICK!
